Completing your course and what comes next
Understanding the process:
-
Assessment Results: Receiving your marks and feedback from your tutor is just the beginning. All assessment results undergo rigorous quality checks at the programme-level exam board to verify and accept the marks.
-
University-Level Quality Checks: After the initial checks, the results undergo another round of university-level quality assessments. They are then presented to the university's Awards & Progression board for final ratification of your programme's recommendation for you.
-
Final Classification/Results Notification: Once your final award is ratified by the university's Awards & Progression board, the Registry team updates your student academic profile with your final classification (if relevant to your programme) and date of award. This typically occurs within a few working days of the board, depending on the volume of awards being processed.
Indicative Timeline for Awards:
For a clearer understanding, here's an indicative timeline for awards at different levels/types of study:
-
Undergraduate (campus-based): Mid-September
-
Postgraduate Taught: Mid-September
-
Undergraduate (resits): Mid-November
Graduation and Invitations:
If you're wondering about Graduation invitations, here's what to expect:
-
Invitation Timing: If you've received notification of your award before the end of July, you should expect your invitation to book a September graduation ceremony during May or shortly thereafter. If you have been awarded between August and December, you will receive an invitation to a January ceremony sometime in late November/early December.
-
Summer Submissions/Exams: If you have submissions or exams over the summer months, you'll go through the normal exam board process in early Autumn and be invited to the January ceremony.
-
Deferred Submissions: If you've deferred your final submissions, this will impact when you can graduate, and you'd be invited to the next available ceremony (either September or January), based on when your award has been confirmed.
